Internet Safety Seminar

Pastor Ron Meldrum is available to lead an Internet Safety Seminar at your church.

Why An "Internet Safety Seminar"?

Many of us now access resources on the Internet on a daily basis. We use it for work, for research, for personal financial management, and maybe even for entertainment. Most Christians are extremely casual about accessing the Internet and allowing their children to access it freely.

It seems that every day we read another newspaper story about someone's life being ruined by something they encountered on the Internet: children lured to clandestine meetings, women stalked after giving out personal information, kids losing their innocence in raunchy "chat rooms," fathers developing devastating porn habits, mothers leaving their families for someone they met on the Internet.

Too many of us carelessly think, "It can't happen to me." The fact is that it can happen to any one of us, but by employing some basic safeguards and a little common sense, we can keep our families safer. This is the burden that led Pastor Meldrum to develop the "Internet Safety Seminar."

What is an "Internet Safety Seminar"?

The seminar is designed to fit within the time constraints of a typical church service. It will usually run about one hour -- possibly longer with a question-and-answer session at the end. However, the seminar can be scaled to fit just about any time-frame necessary.

The seminar covers these basic topics:

  • Protecting Ourselves

  • Protecting Our Children

  • Protecting Our Computers

  • Questions-and-Answers

Pastor Meldrum's Internet Safety Booklet serves as a convenient reminder tool for folks to take home with them after the seminar. There is no charge for the booklet.

What Are Pastor Meldrum's Qualifications?

Pastor Ron Meldrum currently "makes tents" to support his ministry as pastor and his Internet-based ministry by developing web sites. He has been creating web pages since 1995. He worked until 1999 as a web developer for a private College in Maine, then served as Vice President for Development for geekteam.com, an ecommerce company in Greene, Maine. He now does freelance web development work.

The son of an old-time Baptist preacher who pastored churches in Missouri and Maine, Pastor Meldrum attended Open Door Bible Church in Lisbon, Maine, after graduating from College. There he worked for 10 years in the bus ministry, 12 years doing door-to-door witnessing and "bus" visiting, 10 years working in children's programs and the Sunday School, 5 years in the audio/video ministry, 7 years ushering, and always serving in any other areas where his hands and feet were needed or requested. He created and maintains web sites including Billy Sunday On-line, The Fundamental Truth, FundamentalTop500.com, several church/evangelist/missionary web pages, and numerous others. He serves as web developer for Faith Music Missions, the world's largest producer of traditional Christian music. In 2001, he was called to pastor King's Valley Chapel in Kingfield, Maine.

What Is Required to Host a Seminar?

Pastor Meldrum does not require a fee of any kind. Gifts are always accepted, of course, but no fee is ever required or requested. He will go to a Church of any size with or without the promise of money, because this is part of his burden and ministry.

He will bring either an overhead projector with transparencies or a laptop computer with a PowerPoint presentation (if you havea projector) -- whichever you prefer. You will need to have a screen available for either type of projector. Experience has shown that in most cases a large, clean white sheet will do just fine.
